Hushang Dowlatabadi was born in Esfahan to Hessameddin and Fakhri. He had two brothers Mehdi (deceased) and Bijan and three sisters Mahin (deceased) Parvin and Shiva. He has two children, Zahra and Hadi and lives with wife Soheila Haghighat in Tehran.

Dowlatabadi's writings reflect a deep love for Iran and fascination with its history and people.  He has written numerous commentaries, short stories and novels. He has also published about the ancient religion Zurvan and translated books into Farsi.
